Abstract Title: Risk Factors For Close-Spaced Pregnancies And Perinatal Complications: Data From Morocco
Biography:
Professor Chebabe Milouda, Professor at the Higher Institute of Health Sciences in Settat, Hassan I University head of the Midwifery Sciences Department, 23 years of teaching experience, Publication of articles in indexed journals in the field of maternal and child health.
Research Interest:
Objectives: To provide data from Morocco; to study maternal risk factors and determine perinatal complications associated with closely spaced pregnancies.
Materials and methods: retrospective descriptive and analytical study conducted at the Provincial Hospital Centre in the city of Settat from 1 June 2020 to 1 June 2021.
A total of 1,200 patients were admitted. 630 were included in two groups: a group of patients with an interval between pregnancies of less than 9 months (N = 443) and a control group with an interval of more than 9 months (N = 187).
Results: Prematurity, hypotrophy and anaemia p< 0.05 were the main complications. Age > 35 years, low socioeconomic status, rural origin, not breastfeeding and not using contraception during the previous pregnancy were risk factors, hence the logistic regression equation:
Log (close pregnancy) = -5.622+3.901(no breastfeeding) + 2.7585(no contraception) + 1.243 (low socioeconomic status) -0.76(rural area) +2.949 (age >35 years)
Conclusion: Prevention and specific care in family planning are necessary to avoid perinatal complications.
Keywords: closely spaced pregnancies, risk factors, prevention
